Chris Gavin
Coach Chris Gavin was born and raised here in Carroll County Maryland, and first experienced South Carroll Football at a young age while playing for the Winfield Cavaliers Youth Team.
Chris’s football career has already spanned 17 years, both as a player and already a coach for 3 years while playing.
As a junior, Chris rushed for 997yds & 19TDs, was named first team all-county, and received an honorable mention to the Maryland all-state team. His senior season, Chris had even more success earning first team all-state recognition after rushing for 2,016yds & 26TDs on 250 carries, and helping to lead the Cavaliers to their first regional title in years.
Chris broke the single-season Carroll County rushing record in 2014 – a record that had stood for 16 years – propelling him to be named the Carroll County Football Player of the Year. He received additional accolades in 2014, including first team all-metro, all-county, and all-conference selections at both running back and linebacker. He ended his High School career playing in the Baltimore Touchdown Club’s All-Star Game.
“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.” - Eric Thomas
Chris is currently South Carroll’s career & single-season rushing leader, and holds multiple single-game rushing records as well.
For his efforts on and off the field, Chris was awarded a full athletic scholarship to the Div-1 football program at Virginia Military Institute. After a one year stay at VMI, he returned to the football field under the blue and gray of Georgetown University. A career-ending injury has not deterred him from joining his old South Carroll coaches and bringing college experience and a winning mentality to the South Carroll program.
Chris is an incredible youth mentor with over 1,400 hours of community service in just high school alone. A local business owner who knows that hard work is the only way forward in life, Chris brings grit, experience, and excitement to the coaching staff every day.
Coach Gavin enjoys spending time with his family, especially his two younger brothers, Kyle and Mason, both South Carroll Varsity football players.
