After graduating from American University with a BA in Criminal Justice in 1993, Mike married his wife Kristie and they landed in Mount Airy, MD in 1996 ready to start a family and their lives.

Mike’s coaching career began in 2005 helping, later assisting, coaching, and leading the local youth football program before showing up to South Carroll HS in 2010. Starting as an assistant on the JV team, he moved to become the Freshman Head Coach in 2012, then the JV Head Coach in 2015, and joined the Varsity staff in 2018. Starting as the WRs coach, Mike then took on the Special Teams unit, was named the Asst. Head Coach in 2019 and in 2020 moved into the Offensive Coordinator role. In 2023, he became the Head Coach for the program.

As part of a military family, Mike grew up around the country – and the world – living in Germany during his high school years where he played a different kind of ‘football,’ earning his Varsity letter as a freshman and leading the team in assists his junior and senior years.

“Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play.” - Mike Singletary

Mike identifies as a ‘players coach,’ and to quote Steeler’s coach Mike Tomlin, is “not insulted by that term in any way.” Mike serves in a variety of roles – coach, mentor, and teacher, and believes that the proper blend of discipline, consistency, and communication is key to help his players improve, work hard, and accomplish their goals – and win.

Mike and his wife Kristie still live in Mt. Airy, MD. They have two kids, Michael & Kelly who are out making their dent in the world.
